Special police patrols across New York focusing are looking for drivers and passengers not wearing seat belts and not using child restraints.
The effort is part of the Buckle Up New York -- Click it or Ticket enforcement campaign as a new restraint law takes effect Monday.
The new law will require that children under 8 years old "be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system while riding in a motor vehicle," according to the state safety Web site.

Bergen County Police and a Hackensack drug treatment center are among a growing number of agencies using a software program to identify dangerous intersections, spot teen driving trends and reduce accident fatalities.

A storage facility fire Thursday was in the Lubeck Volunteer Fire Department's jurisdiction but it is also just a few blocks away from the Parkersburg city line.
Lubeck Volunteer Fire Chief Mark Stewart said seven volunteer fire departments responded because each one has its own specialty service.
Automatically three volunteer fire departments are dispatched to respond to that area.

Clinicians who responded to a call for volunteers to go to Samoa to help the tsunami response were honoured at a dinner attended by Pacific Island Affairs Minister Georgina te Heuheu in Auckland tonight.
Mrs te Heuheu said when Health Minister Tony Ryall called for volunteers, 815 health professionals offered to go.
At the peak of the emergency New Zealand had more than 50 health professionals providing wound care, infection control, surgery, trauma and grief counselling.

Stung by a recent series of deadly delays in response times to 911 calls, the NYPD and the FDNY announced a modification to the way it is implimenting its vaunted new 911 system to report fire emergencies.
The new Unified Call Taking system, which began in May, was designed to allow callers reporting fire emergencies to speak only to NYPD 911 operators, thereby eliminating the need for the operator to transfer callers to a fire dispatcher.
